The Grange

Located on the edge of a Conservation Area, the proposed garden room to an existing Arts and Crafts house sought to provide a practical, light filled space which sympathetically complements the character of the existing building.

Country

The single storey side extension is sympathetic to the existing property through the use of careful design and materials. The combination of modern and traditional design complements the existing house’s craftsmanship.

The dual pitch roof ensures the extension does not dominate the main house and reclaimed brick and complementing brickwork bonds (English Bond and Herringbone) makes subtle reference to the brickwork used throughout the existing house – notably at first floor between the existing timber frames.

A carefully designed cantilevering corner opens the garden room to the south facing garden and a single full height window provides views of the existing fruit tree orchard to the east.
