Sited on a unique corner plot in the heart of Emsworth town centre, our clients approached us with the intention to refurbish and remodel their historic home whilst retaining key materials and features.
The project's brief was based around introducing open plan spaces and more expansive areas of glazing that would modernise the way the property was lived in. Internal works were proposed to retain the existing materiality of 1 Queen Street wherever possible, with glimpses of original brickwork and timber frame juxtaposing areas of crisp new plaster and aluminium framed glazing.
Externally, historic architectural features such as Flemish bond brickwork, cambered openings and flush blue brick quoins have all been retained or carefully enhanced to expose the dwelling's original character. Window mullions and well proportioned openings build on the original materiality, adding to the next chapter of this historic listed dwelling.
